About Hiddencorners
An independent field journal for places that have not finished being found.
Hiddencorners exists because the travel internet has an arithmetic problem. It ranks places by how many people liked them, which guarantees that the top-ranked place is the one you will share with the most strangers. We rank places by how much of them is left.
What we publish
Every entry is a dossier, not a listicle. A dossier states what is known about a place, what remains genuinely unexplained about it, exactly how to reach it — coordinates, gateway, permit, season, indicative cost — and what your arrival costs the people and the ground that live there. If we cannot answer all four, we do not publish.
Four things we built, and why
The Silence Index
A 0–100 score from four inputs: footfall pressure, access friction, acoustic floor, and unresolved questions. It is deliberately imperfect and meant to start an argument rather than end one. A place scoring 94 is not "better" than one scoring 54 — it is earlier. Read the full methodology, including where it fails.
The Corner Codex
The fact box at the foot of every dossier: real coordinates, real gateway, real permit situation, real season, and one line on what is still unresolved. Every place we write about is a place you can look up, verify and go to. We do not invent destinations.
The Traveler's Panel
The practical layer: an embedded map, step-by-step access, indicative costs, what to pack, where to stay, safety and responsible-travel guidance, and every source we used. It carries an explicit warning that this information expires — because it does.
The Vanishing Clock
Our editorial estimate of how long a place has before the crowd arrives. It is a judgement, not a measurement, and we say so every time we use it.
Who writes it — and how
Oeun Sok Heng is the founder and sole editor. The dossiers are desk-researched: they are not written from personal visits, and we never imply otherwise. Each is built from at least five independent sources, with official and scientific bodies used for anything regulatory, scientific or safety-related, and commercial operators used only for practical detail. Full method on the editor's page and in the editorial policy.
How we are funded — the honest position
Hiddencorners currently earns nothing. There is no advertising running on this site, no affiliate link anywhere in it, no sponsorship and no paywall. We intend to introduce clearly labelled display advertising in future, and when that happens the disclosure page and the privacy policy will be updated before the first ad is served, not after.
Imagery — read this
Hiddencorners does not publish photographs. Every image is an AI-created editorial illustration made in-house. Images are interpretive: they carry the light, scale and character of a place, but they are not documentary, they are not real-time, and they must never be used to judge whether somewhere is safe or passable. Full statement on the disclosure page.
Corrections
Access routes, permits and seasons change constantly, and some of what we cover sits in unstable or hazardous places. If we have something wrong, tell us: osokheng168.01@gmail.com. See the corrections policy.
