Privacy policy

Last updated: 2 September 2026

This policy describes what this website actually does today — not what a template says a website usually does. It was written by auditing the site's own code.

1. Who we are

Hiddencorners is an independent publication operated by Oeun Sok Heng at hiddencorners.org. Contact: osokheng168.03@gmail.com.

2. What we do, and do not do

Stated first, because it is the shortest list and the one people care about:

  • No analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Fathom, no tracking pixel of any kind on this site.
  • Advertising. This site is funded by clearly labelled display advertising, and by nothing else. Our advertising provider is Google AdSense. When an ad is served to you, Google and its certified partners may set advertising cookies; nothing else on this site sets one. What that means, and how to opt out, is set out in full in section 5 below.
  • No cookies set by us. Hiddencorners itself sets no cookies, no analytics and no tracking pixel. The only cookies that can appear on this site are the advertising cookies described in section 5, set by Google and its certified partners when an ad is served — not by us. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland a Google-certified consent management platform is presented before any personalised advertising cookie is set.
  • No newsletter list. There is no signup form and no mailing list.
  • No accounts, no logins, no comments.
  • We do not sell data. We do not have any to sell.

3. What is actually collected

Server logs

Our web host records standard server logs when you request a page: IP address, timestamp, the page requested, browser user-agent and referring page. This is ordinary web-server behaviour, is used for security and diagnosing faults, and is retained by the host under its own retention schedule.

Email you send us

If you email us, we hold that email and your address in order to reply. We do not add you to any list.

4. Third-party content embedded in pages

Two third parties receive a request from your browser when you load a page. We do not control what they log.

  • OpenStreetMap — every dossier embeds a map. When the map loads, your browser contacts OpenStreetMap's servers, which may log your IP address under their privacy policy.
  • Google Fonts — typefaces are loaded from Google's font service, which may log your IP address under Google's privacy policy.

Links to Google Maps are outbound links: nothing is sent until you click one.

5. Advertising and advertising cookies

Hiddencorners is an independent editorial publication supported by clearly labelled display advertising. Advertising never influences what we cover or what we conclude; the separation is set out in our editorial policy, and no advertiser sees an article before it is published.

  • Our advertising provider is Google AdSense. Where ads are served on this site, they are served by Google and its certified partners.
  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and to other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google My Ad Center. You can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or, in Europe, at youronlinechoices.eu.
  • Consent in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland. Where required, a certified consent management platform is presented before any personalised advertising cookie is set, and you may change or withdraw your choice at any time from the same control.
  • We do not ourselves collect, store or have access to any advertising profile about you, and we never sell personal information.

Google's own explanation of the data it processes as a partner site is published in its How Google uses information from sites that use its services notice.

5a. California residents

If you live in California, the CCPA as amended by the CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information is collected about you, to ask for it to be deleted or corrected, to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information — which includes some personalised advertising — and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information for money. To opt out of personalised advertising, use the Google control linked above, or email us using the address in section 7 with the subject line Do not sell or share my personal information, and we will act on it.

6. Legal basis (UK/EU GDPR)

Server logs are processed on the basis of legitimate interest (site security and fault diagnosis). Email you send us is processed in order to respond to you. Advertising cookies, where they are used, rely on your consent, which is requested before any such cookie is set and can be withdrawn at any time.

7. Your rights

You may ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to processing. In practice, unless you have emailed us, we hold nothing about you beyond our host's server logs. Email osokheng168.03@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.

8. Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

9. Changes

Material changes will be posted here with a new "last updated" date. Changes that introduce tracking or advertising will be made before the technology is switched on.
