Privacy policy

This policy describes what this website actually does today — not what a template says a website usually does. It was written by auditing the site's own code.

1. Who we are

Hiddencorners is an independent publication operated by Oeun Sok Heng at hiddencorners.org. Contact: osokheng168.01@gmail.com.

2. What we do not do

Stated first, because it is the shortest list and the one people care about:

• No analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Fathom, no tracking pixel of any kind on this site.
• No advertising. No AdSense script is loaded. No advertising cookies are set. No ad network sees your visit.
• No cookies set by us. This site does not set its own cookies, and there is therefore no cookie banner — because there is nothing to consent to. If that changes, a consent mechanism will be in place before the first cookie is set, not after.
• No newsletter list. There is no signup form and no mailing list.
• No accounts, no logins, no comments.
• We do not sell data. We do not have any to sell.

3. What is actually collected

Server logs

Our web host records standard server logs when you request a page: IP address, timestamp, the page requested, browser user-agent and referring page. This is ordinary web-server behaviour, is used for security and diagnosing faults, and is retained by the host under its own retention schedule.

Email you send us

If you email us, we hold that email and your address in order to reply. We do not add you to any list.

4. Third-party content embedded in pages

Two third parties receive a request from your browser when you load a page. We do not control what they log.

• OpenStreetMap — every dossier embeds a map. When the map loads, your browser contacts OpenStreetMap's servers, which may log your IP address under their privacy policy.
• Google Fonts — typefaces are loaded from Google's font service, which may log your IP address under Google's privacy policy.

Links to Google Maps are outbound links: nothing is sent until you click one.

5. Advertising — future, not present

This site is being developed as an independent editorial publication and may in future be supported by clearly labelled display advertising. No advertising is currently served and no advertising technology is installed. If and when advertising is activated:

• This policy will be updated before the first ad is served.
• If the provider is Google AdSense, third-party vendors including Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites, and you will be able to opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info/choices.
• If personalised advertising is served to visitors in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, a compliant consent mechanism will be installed and functioning first.

6. Legal basis (UK/EU GDPR)

Server logs are processed on the basis of legitimate interest (site security and fault diagnosis). Email you send us is processed in order to respond to you. Nothing on this site currently relies on consent, because nothing on this site currently requires it.

7. Your rights

You may ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to processing. In practice, unless you have emailed us, we hold nothing about you beyond our host's server logs. Email osokheng168.01@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.

8. Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

9. Changes

Material changes will be posted here with a new "last updated" date. Changes that introduce tracking or advertising will be made before the technology is switched on.
